Your Name

Hi Film Folk,

This is my first blog for a few weeks (must try harder Wilton!).

The good news is, that’s because I’ve been hard at work on both our impending book, and the Production Posse website.

We’ve some amazing new masterclasses going live in the next week, including Dreamworks editor Mike Andrews (Shrek 1,2,3, Megamind, Sherman & Peabody), actress Rachel House (Thor Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Moana, Eagle vs Shark) and actor/director/location manager Leif Tilden (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, One Mile to You and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).

There’s more exciting guests lined up going forwards too, all with amazing content to share!

Away from work, I must tell you all about “Your Name”. It’s a Japanese anime written and directed by Makoto Shinkai. The name doesn’t sound that exciting, but (along with Baby Driver) it’s the best thing I’ve seen all year long. It’s doing amazing business in Japan, and it’s so worth catching. Get yourself along to a screening (it’ll be released for home video in due course).

I saw the film as I often like to, knowing sooo little about it. There’s a lot to be said for going into a film knowing nothing, though it’s not easy to do that these days.

More and more, by the time I’m ready to see a film I’ve been smashed in the face by relentless trailers, TV spots, web clips .etc .etc

I could be found this week genuinely sat with fingers in my ears, looking away from the screen as another Blade Runner 2049 trailer ran! As an editor, every one of those clips, even the ultra-short ones, I see!! I don’t want to see that imagery yet, I want it to be a suprise…

I’m off to go hide in a panic room until Blade Runner comes out…

There will be more news about both the book and the website, very soon!
Thanks for reading,

Andy

Thanks for reading,

P.S.

The Production Posse, the ultimate filmmaking membership site, is really starting to take shape. On top of all of the masterclasses, tools and filmmaking content, we’re going to be starting a regular film club. Get yourself along and check the site out here.
