Filmmakers – You Are NOT Alone…

Hi Film Folk,

This week I wanted to talk to you a little a bit about how you are NOT alone…

….sounds like an X-Files episode, eh?

Back when I started filmmaking, in 1999, the indie film community was a very different place. We were few and far between, the internet wasn’t what it is now, you couldn’t put your finished films online and kit was far more basic than it is now. With a lot of indie filmmaking, you were often on your own.

In 2016, that is no longer the case…

There are now vast quantities of filmmakers in your local community… but you also have access to other filmmakers the world over. The internet, is a fabulous thing.

When I was first making short films, in the last millenium (I sound like a dinosaur!) it was with editing on VHS… I was a one-man-filmmaking machine. These days, I collaborate globally, from the comfort of my swivel chair.

When I shot my feature film “Behind the Scenes of TOTAL HELL”, I had team members all over the UK, US and Europe.

One of the challenges now, is ensuring that people are who they say they are. That they are indeed reliable, trustworthy and someone you want to associate with.

The same applies to information. We’ve never had so much info at our fingertips, but how do you know you can trust it? Not all of it is correct. Much of it is plastered out there to get you to click things, or be inundated with adverts…

Well, this is where “The Production Posse” comes in. I’m proud to be launching our indie filmmaking community site in early 2017. It’s going to be an absolute gamechanger for indie filmmakers.

The Production Posse will be a central hub for filmmaking collaboration, education, resources and news. We’ll be able to chat with one another, collaborate, share projects, tools and there’ll be weekly features such as debates, film discussions and there will be masterclasses with industry professionals…

We’ll have three membership packages, offering different levels of access to fit different filmmaker needs. This won’t be free, because this site will be a serious tool for filmmakers. We won’t be hosting adverts and we won’t be spamming with clickbait.

So, while this is still under construction – I want to hear your ideas about what you would like to see in the ultimate indie filmmaking community! You can email me with any thoughts at: atomicfilmmaker@iwf.co.uk

I can’t promise to make every suggestion happen, (free beer for all sounds great, but tough to implement), but I will take all ideas on board! Some ideas will be implemented, others might work further down the line.

I’m very serious about making this a success and I think we can all be so much stronger by choosing to work together.

As an exclusive membership site, we will be able to pull away from the usual groups of trolls, bulls***ers and losers… The site will only be populated by people who are serious about growing as filmmakers and being a success, not those who simply talk about it…

If you haven’t already, you can sign up to all of the latest updates, here.

So, keep forging your path and making great films – but never forget that you are NOT alone.
